SunChips® snacks aren’t just into bringing Deliciousness for All™.
We’re also into treating the world like the delicious planet it is.
So we believe in reducing our environmental impact while maintaining strict levels of tastiness.
To do that, we are taking small steps toward environmental sustainability
and to projects that will have long-term benefits for our consumers and our environment.
One step that we have taken is in our commitment to solar energy.
At SunChips® we found a way to capture the sun’s rays to help make snacks in some of our plants.
In fact, we produce over 1 MILLION BAGS each day with the help of solar energy!
SunChips® snacks are currently made in 8 cities across the US. We’re now harnessing
the sun’s rays in 2 of these locations to help make our delicious snacks.
In 2008, our plant in Modesto, California, began using solar energy, instead of
fossil fuel, to help make SunChips® snacks. In Modesto, our solar collectors
track the sun from dawn to dusk, gathering all the energy they can.
We transfer that energy into heat, which helps us produce 400,000 bags
of SunChips® snacks every day. So you get a snack that’s not only off
the charts in yum factor but better for the planet as well.
With the success at Modesto, we decided to make another delicious
move to help our environment. In 2011, our plant in Casa Grande,
Arizona, began generating solar energy that is used in place of electricity
to run the plant and help produce approximately 700,000 bags of
delicious SunChips® snacks a day.
The electricity that the Casa Grande plant produces powers the motors on
many of our systems and production line. We also generate the steam used
to help make SunChips® snacks with renewable energy.
Altogether, we produce over 1 MILLION bags of SunChips® snacks a day with the
help of solar energy! We’re happy to do our part to better the environment.
